It pains me when I see people commenting on how God is good, when things are good.
“I got a new job!”
God is good!
“I’m finally pregnant!”
God is faithful!
“I financed a 25,000 car!”
God is good!
Do you know what I would love to see? And this might completely rock your theology.
“I had a stillborn baby.”
God is good.
“I got diagnosed with ALS”
God is faithful.
“I lost my job.”
God is good.
“My spouse is leaving me.”
God is good.
Because if God is only “good” based on your circumstances, what happens when chaos is around you? What happens when your world falls apart?
We need to get to the place where we realize God is good, because it is His nature. It is the essence of His very being.
God is good, because God is love. He does not change. He does not waiver. He is consistent.
He is always good, always kind, always faithful.
Somewhere along the way, it seems our westernized Christianity has placed the goodness of God on the “goodness” of our circumstances. I am not being dramatic when I say it literally pains me when I see this happening.
I am not saying that we shouldn’t celebrate or praise God when things are good. There are so many scriptures in the Bible where we are encouraged to do this!
I just want us (the American Christian) to be a little more aware.
How do I know that God is good?
Because of my relationship with Him. Because of how He has revealed His heart for me. Because of moments in His very presence that knocks me to my knees.
God is good when life is good.
God is good when life is not.
He goes beyond time and space. Beyond what we can see or comprehend.
So, please, I urge you to think twice before you relate God’s goodness to external situations. Because the underlying message you are (perhaps unintentionally sending) is God is not good when things are not good.
He is always, always good.
In the midst of reading Job! He relates to these words. I love you, Leah. Your writings always amaze me. Never quit.
I love you too. It’s all God!!!!
God is continually revealing to me the storms of life through His word. Over a year ago, this topic of the goodness of God was spoken at a ladies conference. Even then, God was speaking to me, preparing me and revealing His truth and nature. He doesn’t promise a life without storms, but He DOES promise He is near us, with us, close to us through the storm. Jesus slept through the storm, calms the storm and He walks with us lifting us up. My prayer continues to be to reflect Him and worship Him even through what I think shouldn’t be but rest in His promise that He knows and it is good. Love you Leah, your life and ministry is a testimony of God. You shine and reflect His love and truth. Bless you.
Thank you for sharing Laura. 💗
Yes! Yes! Yes! God is always good! Our minds can’t fully comprehend it. But He is. And we are His beloved people. Hugs, friend! Thanks for sharing God’s goodness through it all! I love you! 💕
I love you 🥹
This is beautiful…and so relevant.
God is good. All the time.
And all the time. God is good!
Leah, there is an intrinsic joy in serving the Lord that circumstances cannot take away. Maybe that is why we can continue to say that ultimately God is Good in every situation. He always makes a way for us to endure! Thank you for sharing your testimony so poignantly. You have blessed my heart, and no doubt God is using you to touch many lives!
Thank you so much!
Amen!!!
Love.
😀
Leah, I struggled with this very thing when I had Lillian because I was taught growing up that if you served the Lord, only good things would happen to you. It took years to reject that belief and I’m just so thankful that the Lord revealed to me His goodness has never been dependent on my circumstances. It’s who He is, not what I experience. Not a popular message today but I believe Jesus is getting His bride to that very place where this becomes a core belief. Thank you for this needed reminder.
Oh Cara, thank you for sharing this. 💓
Wow this is so True, yet so hard to live. I am very thankful that you are learning and leaning into the one who is Good! I love you and am so thankful for you.
Very hard!!!
